Safe, Professional Tree Removal by an Experienced, NPTC-Qualified Tree Surgeon
If you have a tree that's become dangerous, diseased, storm damaged or simply no longer suitable for its location, Wild About Trees provides safe, reliable and professional tree removal services across Penrith and the wider Cumbria area.
I'm Martyn, owner of Wild About Trees. With over 15 years of experience in tree surgery and arboriculture, I understand that every tree is different. Some trees can be carefully maintained through pruning, while others need to be removed to protect people, property or surrounding trees.
Whether you're dealing with a large mature tree, a dead or dying tree, or one that's causing damage to buildings, driveways or gardens, I'll assess the situation honestly and recommend the safest and most practical solution.
Every tree removal project is carried out using professional equipment, safe working practices and with the utmost respect for your property.
When Does a Tree Need Removing?
Trees are incredibly valuable and, wherever possible, I always aim to preserve them. However, there are situations where removal is the safest or most sensible option.
A tree may need removing if it:
Has become dangerous or unstable.
Has suffered storm or wind damage.
Is dead or dying.
Is affected by disease such as Ash Dieback.
Has structural defects or severe decay.
Is causing damage to buildings, walls or driveways.
Has outgrown the available space.
Is blocking construction or landscaping work.
Has become unsafe due to root damage.
If you're unsure whether a tree should be removed, I'm happy to inspect it and provide honest, professional advice. I won't recommend removing a healthy tree unless it's genuinely necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does tree removal cost?
The cost depends on the size of the tree, its location, access, and how complex the removal will be. Every quotation is free, with no obligation, and includes honest advice on the best course of action.
Can you remove trees close to houses?
Yes. Trees growing near buildings often need to be dismantled carefully in sections using ropes and specialist rigging equipment to protect surrounding property.
Do you remove all the waste?
Yes. Unless you'd like to keep the timber or woodchip, all branches and green waste are removed from site and recycled responsibly.
Do I need permission to remove my tree?
Some trees are protected by Tree Preservation Orders or are located in Conservation Areas. If this applies, I'll explain the process and help you understand what permissions may be needed before work starts.
Can you remove the stump as well?
Absolutely. Stump grinding can be carried out at the same time as the tree removal, leaving the area ready for replanting or landscaping.

Our Tree Removal Process
Every job begins with a thorough assessment to ensure the safest method of removal.
Free Site Visit
I'll inspect the tree, assess access, identify any hazards and discuss your requirements.
Planning the Work
Every tree presents different challenges. I'll decide whether the tree can be felled in one piece or needs to be dismantled section by section using specialist climbing and rigging techniques.
Safe Removal
Using professional equipment and safe working methods, the tree is carefully dismantled or felled while protecting nearby buildings, fences, gardens and neighbouring properties.
Waste Removal
Branches, timber and green waste can all be removed from site and recycled responsibly. If you'd like to keep logs for firewood or woodchip for your garden, I'm happy to leave them with you.
Site Clean-Up
No one wants to be left with a mess after tree work. Once the job is complete, the site is thoroughly cleared so your garden or property is left clean and tidy.
Difficult Tree Removals
Not every tree can simply be cut down.
Many of the trees I remove are located close to houses, garages, greenhouses, roads, overhead cables or neighbouring properties. These situations require careful planning, specialist climbing equipment and controlled dismantling techniques to safely remove the tree in manageable sections.
With over 15 years of experience, I'm confident working in challenging locations while keeping disruption to a minimum.
Emergency Tree Removal
Cumbria's weather can be unpredictable, and storms can quickly turn a healthy tree into a dangerous hazard.
If a tree has:
Fallen across a driveway
Split during high winds
Become unstable
Dropped dangerous branches
Is threatening a building or road
I can respond as quickly as possible to assess the situation and make the area safe.
Emergency tree work is always carried out with safety as the highest priority.
Tree Preservation Orders & Conservation Areas
Some trees are protected by Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) or are located within Conservation Areas.
If you're unsure whether permission is required before carrying out work, don't worry.
I'll explain what's needed and help guide you through the process before any work begins.
Stump Grinding After Tree Removal
Once a tree has been removed, the remaining stump can still cause problems.
If required, I can also grind out the stump below ground level, allowing you to:
Lay new turf
Replant the area
Install fencing
Extend patios
Landscape your garden
Remove trip hazards
Ask about combining tree removal and stump grinding during your quotation.
